Anyone thirsting to explore Canterbury’s best pubs serving proper local ales have a brand new guide to help them on their way.
The Canterbury Local Beer Trail map has been launched in celebration of Kent Green Hop Fortnight 2022, championing 17 historic pubs and stylish bars that all sell and champion locally-made ales from independent brewers in the city.
Inspired by Canterbury’s long-standing reputation for offering excellent hospitality to pilgrims and travellers for centuries, the free pocket map has been created by the team at The Foundry Brew Pub to help people discover different parts of the city and brand-new beverages along the way.
The beautifully illustrated map showcases the featured pubs as well as selected places to eat and stay. It is sponsored by Canterbury BID and Shepherd Neame (the oldest brewer in Britain) and is available to collect from any of the pubs featured on the map, as well as The Beaney Visitor Information Centre. Alternatively you can access a digital copy here: canterburybid.co.uk/mycanterbury
Some of pubs featured on the map will also be selling Kent’s famous Green Hop Beer, which are special brews using fresh Kentish hops (rather than dried) gathered in a very small harvesting window. Green hops only stay fresh for a short period of time meaning the beers created have a limited shelf life, making them highly sought after thanks to their unique flavours.

Jon Mills, Owner of The Foundry said: “When you buy a locally brewed beer not only are you buying quality but supporting the staff and families of a local farmer, a local brewery but also the wonderful establishment you are enjoying it in”
Lisa Carlson, Canterbury BID: “We know a huge amount of people come to Canterbury, and Kent, to eat and drink local produce and our Local Beer Trail will help people to get a real taste of what Canterbury is about. As there are 17 pubs and restaurants on here, we wouldn’t recommend tackling them ALL in one day – drink local and responsibly – but it’s a great guide to have for a long weekend.”
Joanna Richardson, Shepherd Neame, said: “This has been a real partnership effort between everyone involved in the map to champion our fantastic local beer scene in Canterbury and encourage people to try out a beer and a pub they may not have visited before.”
