Homelessness can happen to anyone at any time. The loss of employment, family fallout and mental illness are just some of the reasons that people are forced to sleep on the streets. In 2018 Porchlight helped 5000 vulnerable and isolated people get support with mental health, housing, education and employment. As the Business Improvement District, we have worked with the Porchlight outreach workers on the streets of Canterbury and have seen the difference they make.
On October 19th, Lisa Carlson, Canterbury BID’s Chief Executive, and two BID Board Directors – David Lilford, owner of the Lilford Gallery and Lilford Framing, and Jon Fitter-Harding, Director of Dodgems and Floss – will be spending the night under the stars in a cardboard box to raise valuable funds so that this important work can continue.
