Canterbury’s population is about to increase by 1/3 as we welcome students back to Canterbury’s three Universities.
In 2019 footfall the week of Student’s return saw 223,145 visitors to the city centre, a hike of 30,000 compared to the week before. We would like to welcome these new local residents (and their families!) and encourage them to explore all that Canterbury has to offer and have agreed to partner up with Whitefriars and help create a city wide student shopping week. This will replace the annual shopping evening in Whitefrairs who, like all of us, are keen to promote social distancing and avoid over crowding the city for a single event.
Perhaps you were already planning to offer a student discount? If so, we would like to offer you two free opportunities to promote your discount:
1. Free listing on our ‘Student Discount Week’ web page
We are putting together a dedicated web page listing all the discounts on offer to students during discount week (28 Sept – 2 Oct), for those that show an official NUS Student Card. Simply email Kathy the following information and we will add your offer to the page, with a link to your website:
- your discount
- an image
- your logo
- Your website address
- any Ts&Cs to the offer
2. Get involved with the Goodie Bag Giveaway (Thurs 1 Oct)!
On Thursday 1 October local students will have the opportunity of claiming 1 of 500 goodie bags which must be collected from the city centre.
They will also have the opportunity to win a prize on Whitefriars‘ ‘Spin the Wheel’ game. The bags will include Visit Canterbury Guides and the BID’s Canterbury Shopping Maps. Whitefriars are adding various discount vouchers and books. Is there something you would like to offer either for the goodie bags or Spin the Wheel? We are not expecting 500 items, it could be 10 vouchers for a discount off a meal / hair cut or branded stationary etc – and your logo will be added to the Whitefriars event page and BID website with your web link.
