12 April onwards: Food and Beverages allowed to be served outside

From 12 April hospitality business will be able to serve food and beverages outside. If this requires tables and chairs being placed on public pavements outside, you will need a licence from the council. Please click HERE to apply for one. Applications cost £100 to cover the council's costs and the council has a maximum of 14 days in which to decide an application, otherwise it is automatically granted. Find out more here

12 April Onwards: Non essential Retail, Salons, Personal Care and Public Building allowed to open

12 April will see the opening of non-essential retail; personal care premises such as hairdressers and nail salons; and public buildings, including libraries and community centres. Indoor leisure facilities such as gyms will also reopen (but only for use by people on their own or in household groups); as will most outdoor attractions and settings including outdoor hospitality venues, zoos, theme parks, and drive-in cinemas. We have been informed that the city's Park and Ride services will be back up and running for Monday 12 April -in time for reopening. More details to follow....

28-30 April:Thomas Becket- Life, Death & Legacy Conference, Canterbury Cathedral (online) Join Canterbury Cathedral for three days of exciting papers, from 28-30th April 2021, examining the history, visual and material culture, archaeology, architecture, literature, liturgy, musicology, and reception of Becket’s cult at Canterbury, across Europe and beyond, with keynote papers by Rachel Koopmans, Paul Webster, and Alec Ryrie. Be guided by experts on a series of virtual tours, taking you right into the heart of Canterbury Cathedral and the surrounding area, allowing you to get up close with some of the stunning architecture and artefacts from Becket’s long and storied history. Taste of Kent Awards 2021 -winners announced!

Following a jaw-dropping 41,000 votes cast by the public, the shortlist for this year's Taste of Kent Awards is now being reviewed by a panel of experts and the winners will be announced at a virtual award ceremony on Tuesday 11 May 2021. The event is organised by local food and drink champion, Produced in Kent, and has seen a phenomenal interest from the public all very busy nominating their favourite businesses in a variety of different categories. Canterbury businesses shortlisted include The Ambrette (Kent Hospitality Business of the Year), Garage Roasted and Lost Sheep Coffee (Kent Non-Alcoholic Drink Product of the Year).
