Get set for Canterbury's very own Climate Action Week, part of the Canterbury Festival, running from 24-30 October to mark the run-up to the United Nations Climate Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow. We are hosting a very special Canterbury BID Lunchtime Networking session at The Foundry from 12:30 to 2:30 on Wednesday 27 October, focusing on business support. This festive fun Helter Skelter is lit up in gorgeous Christmas lights with Christmas songs playing, creating the perfect soundtrack for kids to have fun and burn off some energy while you stand by and sip a mulled wine and grab a bite to eat (the food and drink hut is right beside it). Canterbury’s Christmas Light Up Parade – Friday 12 November (6-7pm) Head to Canterbury city centre on Friday 12 November(6-7pm) to enjoy the launch of this year’s Christmas festivities. To encourage social distancing, a ‘Light Up Parade’ is taking place, rather than a static stage. This means you will be able to see the lights go on from anywhere on the high street. The parade will be led by the fantastic No Limits Street Band. Following them will be the Lord Mayor and his family, Marlowe Panto cast members in a fairytale horse drawn carriage, Christmas characters and lanterns. Not forgetting our hard working ‘light up’ elves that will be making sure Canterbury is sparkling as we process. The parade will warm up with Christmas songs performed by Robbie White in the Marlowe Forcourt at 5.45pm, getting everyone in the Christmas spirit. The parade will the leave fom the Marlowe Theatre at 6pm, process up the high street, Rose Lane, finishing at Rose Square. Don’t forget, while you are in town, to pop along to the fantastic Christmas Market which will be open from 10am-7pm in St Georges Street, Whitefriars and Rose Lane.

The In Conversation series continues with Sir Michael Morpurgo OBE, who will be joining Gavin Esler live in the Gulbenkian Theatre at 18.30 with doors opening at 18.00. Michael Morpurgo has written over 130 books, including The Butterfly Lion, Kensuke’s Kingdom, Why the Whales Come, The Mozart Question, Shadow, and War Horse, which was adapted for a hugely successful stage production by the National Theatre and then, in 2011, for a film directed by Steven Spielberg. Michael was awarded the OBE for his writing in 2006. His latest novels are When Fishes Flew (HarperCollins), Carnival of the Animals (Harper Collins) and Song of Gladness (Macmillan).
Come and browse Canterbury School of Visual Arts' gorgeous Christmas Market on Friday 3 December. The market is being held at the CSVA Gallery at the College on New Dover Road where guests will be offered festive refreshments from 2.30-4pm, and be able to to browse and to buy a selection of works made by current Art students.
